Meniere’s disease has been described as feeling seasick. It causes problems with hearing, vision, and balance. It affects as many as 200 people out of every 100, 000, according to Dr. Lewis Romett. General onset begins around age 40 to 50. It is a condition of the vestibular system, which is part of the inner ear, along with the central nervous system. No one knows for a certainty what causes Meniere’s, but research has suggested that in some cases it can be related to a trauma to the head or neck.
Other symptoms that come along with Meniere’s, such as migraine headaches and vertigo, make it very complicated to diagnose and then treat. There are no FDA-approved drugs specifically for Meniere’s. Some relief that work for one person do not work for another. However, recent research confirms that if inflammation is present in the inner ear, it can be hindering fluid from draining properly. This can lead to Meniere’s.

To reduce any inflammation that may be present in the ear, an experimental drug is being tried. This is a type of steroid that is injected into the ear. While some positive results have been noted, they only last a few weeks. This relief care clearly is not addressing the underlying cause. One relief care that is seeing long-term success, however, is that given by upper cervical chiropractors.
There are only a few doctors globally who are Blair technique proficiency certified. We focus our attention on the atlas bone in the neck. This is the first bone of the vertebrae. If it is out of alignment, it can affect the central nervous system. This controls certain bodily functions, such as the draining of fluid in the ears. When these do not drain properly, balance is affected. This can create inflammation and cause the symptoms of Meniere’s. When the atlas is then corrected by a gentle, effective adjustment, the nervous system then begins to function at the normal level. The ears can drain properly, and Meniere’s symptoms can start to decrease or entirely go into remission.
